We love Tatebanko and all our work is directed by this passion. We have designed our own style of Tatebanko, built on four of our core passions. Firstly, we build narratives that celebrate the rich tapestry of the world including Lunar festivals from China, the great western traditions, and more. We create fantastic landscapes in which the narratives from these great celebrations occur, from the swirling waters of Dragon Boat day to the ghostly snow-covered landscapes of Christmas. These landscapes are populated by iconic characters from the pages of history, each with its own history and personality. Finally, we wrap everything up in a handmade bespoke package designed to bring you, and those you love, all the experience of the festival.

We love narratives and believe they should be preserved, and passed down to the next generation. As such each of our cards celebrates not just the event but the story behind the event. We depict different moments in the story, whilst using interactive elements to allow you to immerse in the narrative yourself.

our design process

Just like Tatebanko of old, we love handcrafting our products. We use old-fashioned handcrafting techniques to ensure that our products are unique and beautifully crafted.

  • We are passionate storytellers. Therefore, the journey to creating a Figstory card starts with choosing a compelling narrative. We have many stories that range from the monsters of Ancient China to a man finding redemption in the snows of winter past. We deconstruct famous historical narratives into key moments which then directs our visual design process, helping us to capture key moments that contain each story's very essence.

  • We love the tradition of Tatebanko and maintain traditional techniques and materials so far as possible. We always work with fine quality, high GSM cards. We cut our cards cut by hand, often hand colour, and always hand-assemble our products. For us using an authentic quality process is almost as important as the final product.

  • We are inspired by tradition but also passionate about technological innovation. Driving this innovation is a belief that a card should have a depth beyond mere display, that it is a gateway into a world that you can explore. To do this each card contains links to additional audiovisual materials that enhance your enjoyment.   • Here at Figstory, we pride ourselves on creating a truly unique product. This means that we strive to make each and every card different and build in variation to ensure no 2 of our products are exactly alike. It might be something small, a different painting on the wall, or a slightly different position of a figure. It might be something massive like a different colour sky or a mirror image. Whatever it is, your card will be unique to you.

  • When a product is complete, it is scrutinised by hand. We take great pride in our product and reject any card with a printing imperfection, poor hand curring or assembly, incorrect colour variation, low-grade colouring, and so on. You can be sure you will be getting only the finest products.
    - Quality Assurance

  • We are so proud of our cards that we always sign them when we think they are complete and they have been checked for quality. Our logo is the black rabbit and you will always find a black rabbit located somewhere in your card, without fail. Although... we do not always make it easy to find, so look closely. If the black rabbit is not there, it is not a genuine, handcrafted Figstory card!

  • Only when we are happy with our product, it has received the black rabbit mark, and is packaged ready to be sent, will it be available for sale. We don't make many products because our ethos is quality over quantity. So when you purchase a card, we want your experience to match our product. Our shop only sells ready-to-ship cards. We post on the same day of payment. We have a 30-day no-quibble refund policy and give you access to our savings and services hub where you can learn more about our cards.
