Chinese New Year

Celebrate Chinese New Year by listening to tradional New Year Stories. Watch the defeat of Nian (年) a great monster that used to terrify villagers every New Year, destroy crops, kill livestock and steal children. Watch as Nian's defeat starts a tradition of using firecrackers and red that is still common across Asia today.

Mid Autumn Festival

One of the most important Chinese festivals is the Autumn Festival, traditionally a time when friends and family gather together. Now you can share traditional Mid Autumn tales with your loved ones. Listen to the tale of the rabbit in the moon, and experience his rise from gentle creature to apothecary to the Gods, before his fall and exile to the moon. Think of Chang'e as you celebrate by looking up at the full moon.

Dragon Boat Festival

The double 5th, the 5th month of the lunar calandar is a very unlucky time. Many traditions have grown up to try to drive away bad luck such as the custom of hanging mugwort. However, some are still unlucky, and perhaps most unfortunate was the man whose death is celebrated in the dragon boat races held all around the world today.
